As Exciting As We Can Make it: Ikon in the 1980s

Two works by Eddie Chambers, in the Arts Council Collection, were on show at the Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, in an exhibition titled As Exciting As We Can Make it: Ikon in the 1980s. The exhibition, which ran from 2 July - 31 August 2014, took a look at art and artists associated with Ikon Gallery during the 1980s. The two works, both mixed media, were made for Eddie Chambers' exhibition at Africa Centre, Covent Garden, Marcus Garvey: The Blackest Star, commemorating the birth of Marcus Garvey in 1887. Black Civilisation, 1988, paint, postcards, metal brackets, glass on board, 152.2 x 122 cm, and African Icons, 1987, mixed media on four panels, each 77.8 x 65 cm.
