After his passing in 1979, Charles White’s reputation as an artist continued to increase, garnering more and more adulation. To this end, one of the first substantial posthumous overviews of his work was Images of Dignity: A Retrospective of the Works of Charles White. The exhibition was originated by the Studio Museum in Harlem, June 20 - August 31, 1982. The exhibition's title had, in large part, been borrowed from the celebrated monograph, published in several editions by Ward Ritchie Press, Los Angeles, 1967. 121pp, 95 b&w illustrations.

The exhibition Images of Dignity: A Retrospective toured to California Museum of Afro-American History and Culture, 700 State Drive, Ex[position Park, Los Angeles, September 15 - October 30, 1983.

This was the lightweight folded card that functioned as the  California Museum of Afro-American History and Culture invitation to the exhibition itself. It was not an opening view card. A tone-eliminated portrait of White appeared on the cover. A reproduction of 'Untitled' (Man with Outstretched Arms) 1959, appeared on the inside of the invitation, alongside text introducing White and his significance and importance.
